Wall of Compassion

Wall of Compassion

Empathy is frequently lost when working with individuals struggling with traits of BPD as the behaviors are often misunderstood, thus frustrating our ability to help. We may find ourselves putting up a wall between ourselves and the very people we are there to help. However, with adequate curiosity to explore what motivates these often confusing behaviors, we begin to see beneath the surface and past the assumptions to what truly lies inside. In this way, we can build a wall of compassion, a wall that protects us from burn-out, but that also protects the relationship we are trying to build. With curiosity and validation we can enter into an empathic and healing treatment.
I provide peer consulting/trauma coaching for individuals struggling with traits of borderline personality disorder. I also conduct educational workshops for professionals and students. My workshops focus on helping the audience gain a new perspective of borderline personality disorder as well as help them to feel more empowered when working with this population through building an understanding of the motivations behind the behaviors that we see with BPD, self-injury and unresolved traumatic symptomology. I also provide techniques with which to respond. Once the professional feels more equipped to cope with the challenges of BPD, an empathic relationship can emerge.
